Microneedling is supposed to work wonders for the skin. Especially through the promotion of Hollywood stars, this beauty trend has now arrived almost evrywhere. The treatment is not only offered in cosmetic studios, you can also do microneedling easily at home. How this works, what the advantages are and more, we will now go through.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is designed to make the skin radiant and beautifully smooth. Microneedling, also called mesotherapy, is a cosmetic treatment for aesthetic skin problems. The treatment is performed by dermatologists, cosmeticians or even at home by yourself.

The skin is treated with a dermaroller, also called microneedle roller, or a microneedling pen. This has several fine needles that “prick” the skin during the beauty treatment. This irritates the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. The needles virtually injure the skin so that it renews itself. Elastin, hyaluron and collagen formation is thus stimulated. Tiny holes are created, allowing the skin to better absorb other active ingredients, such as vitamins and hyaluronic acid.

The needle length of the dermaroller depends on the skin area and the skin problem. The shorter needles are suitable for the face and the longer ones for the treatment of stretch marks and cellulite on the body.

What are the effects of microneedling on the skin?

Microneedling is said to improve the regeneration of the skin and it refreshes itself. The skin, which otherwise renews itself about every 28 days, will do it faster. However, no substances, especially artificial ones, are injected into the skin. The treatment releases elastin, hyaluronic acid and collagen.

Elastin, as the name suggests, provides elasticity to the skin, hyaluronic acid stores moisture and collagen strengthens connective tissue and reduces wrinkles. The result is therefore a strengthened connective tissue. Microneedling can also combat other annoying and aesthetic skin problems.

Because the skin is “pecked”, it is also easier to apply other skin care products, because it becomes more receptive. Hyaluronic acid or other products are better absorbed by the skin.

The scalp also benefits from the beauty treatment. Because the application promotes blood circulation and thus stimulates hair growth.

How does Microneedling work?

Microneedling: Professional treatment

You can have a microneedling treatment at a dermatologist’s office or at home. However, if you have a professional treatment, the needles are larger. For this reason, your skin will be rubbed with an anesthetic ointment beforehand, otherwise it can be very painful. The more sensitive the skin area, the more mild pain you might feel. The needle length can be up to 4 mm.

After the application, the face is cleaned and a mask or other skin care creams are applied. The skin is naturally irritated by the “pricks”, so it is also normal that it is very red after the treatment. Afterwards you should take care of the face or the skin. So do not apply acidic care products, so as not to irritate the skin even more. The skin recovers after a few days.

You cannot expect positive results after one application. Only after several weeks of treatment, you can see the positive effects. Depending on the skin problem, the number of treatments will vary.

Microneedling: Treatment at home

In the beginning, the treatment could only be done professionally. Nowadays, you can buy dermarollers yourself and thus perform the treatment yourself. The maximum needle length for home beauty treatments is 1.5 mm, but most often it is between 0.2 and 0.5 mm. You do not have to anesthetize the skin beforehand.

You should be careful to glide evenly over the skin and not to exert pressure. You should not notice the needles. Afterwards, apply a serum with hyaluronic acid and moisturizer. In order for the skin to calm down and not become irritated, you should refrain from using microneedling and highly irritating creams and peelings for a few days after the treatment.

For whom is microneedling suitable?

As already mentioned, dermaroller treatments help with several skin problems. Especially face, neck, décolleté, scalp and thighs are treated with it.

Microneedling helps to smooth wrinkles and thus has a great anti-aging effect. The treatment also fights the unpopular cellulite. Stretch marks (stretch marks etc.) are reduced by the regular beauty treatment. Scalp problems or hair loss are also among the areas of application of microneedling. You can also achieve fuller lips with the dermaroller.

It also works on scars such as acne scars, burn scars or surgical scars, effectively reducing and improving them. Besides wrinkles, pigmentation spots can also appear in the aging process. But UV light can also be responsible for pigmentary disorders. Microneedling is also effective here, just as it is for skin discolorations.

Of course, anyone who suffers from acute acne, pimples, herpes or has sensitive skin should better not undergo microneedling treatment. It could worsen these skin problems instead of improving them.

What should you keep in mind when microneedling?

Microneedling Dermaroller

After microneedling, the skin is damaged and should be treated and cared for carefully. This means that you should not use strongly irritating cosmetics such as acidic peelings or creams.

After the treatment you should also protect your skin from the sun to avoid skin irritation or even pigment disorders. So be sure to apply a sunscreen. It is also better not to use peelings before microneedling, because they irritate the skin even more.

It is very important to pay attention to hygiene during the treatment at home. The needles of the dermaroller penetrate the skin. Therefore, the beauty tool must always be clean and disinfected before use.

Buy Dermaroller for Microneedling...

If you have never done a microneedling treatment before or just want to give it a try, you should opt for a dermaroller with short needles. A needle length of 0.25 mm would be good to start with. After that you can increase and use a dermaroller with a needle length between 0.25 and 0.5 mm for the face and a length of 1 mm for the body.

For this reason, you should decide for yourself which product is best for you. You can first buy a dermaroller with a certain needle length, or a dermaroller with different heads for face and body. But there are also already electric dermarollers. With this product you can adjust the needle length yourself.
