Plant

The lime belongs to the genus of citrus fruits and is native to tropical and subtropical regions. It is cultivated in countries such as Sri Lanka, India, the USA, Brazil, Mexico and Kenya. The lime is much more sensitive to cold than the lemon and therefore needs a tropical climate to thrive.

Extraction of essential lime oil

The light yellow or light olive green essential lime oil is obtained by cold pressing the fruit skin. 1 litre of essential oil is extracted from 150 kilograms of fruit skin.

Cosmetic use of essential lime oil

Essential lime oil has an astringent effect and regulates / normalizes sebum production in oily skin and acne-prone skin. The essential oil also frees blocked pores and has a clarifying effect.

Buying & using essential lime oil – what to consider?

Lime oil, which is obtained by steam distillation, is harmless and non-irritating. Lime oil obtained from cold pressing can make the skin light-sensitive and cause skin irritation. Preferably oil from organic farming should be used, as citrus fruits are often heavily sprayed with pesticides.
