DIY pillow mist for a good night’s sleep

Selbstgemachtes Kissenspray

Beauty sleep is not just a phrase, its on point. Sufficient and good sleep is essential for beautiful skin. Even when we »sleep« our body is not inactive, but regenerates, repairs, and detoxifies. Depending on what we put the body through during the day, it needs its time at night to regenerate. Not only duration of sleep plays a role, but also quality, and it can be adjusted in different ways:

  • No artificial light – otherwise the production of the sleep hormone melatonin is disturbed.
  • Switch off your smartphone and laptop half an hour before going to bed. If not possible, adjust the screen color with special apps (e.g. Flux).
  • Your bedroom should be cool – 18 degrees is ideal for a good night’s sleep.
  • Do not eat anything for two hours before going to bed, the body should not be busy with digestion.

Another tool is aromatherapy. Essential oils can help to achieve good and restful sleep. This homemade pillow mist with calming and relaxing essential oils supports a good night’s sleep.

Used raw materials

Selbstgemachtes Kissenspray Rohstoffe
Ingredients
15 ml distilled water
35 ml alcohol
Distilled water

Normal tap water usually has too much lime content and the ions in the water can negatively influence the properties of the preparations. You could also use boiled mineral water, but for cosmetic purposes, you also want to avoid minerals and bacteria.

Alcohol, 95 % (ethanol)

The alcohol base should be high-proof alcohol. Only this can preserve and release the fragrances from the oils. We also don’t want the smell of alcohol to be perceived too strongly, therefore you should use neutral alcohol such as vodka or grain alcohol when buying commercial alcohol. However, undenatured alcohol is best. If you add some water to the alcohol, the »alcohol smell« is not so strong.
